As you may be aware the Arenal Lake is full of Rainbow and Tiger bass as well as Tilapia, however trying to get the bigs ones out can sometimes be an issue. We stayed at La Mansion Arenal Hotel on Lake Arenal and awoke at 5.30 am as this is when the fish seem to bite the most, between the hours of 5.30am and 9 am. Recently a new stylish hotsprings was opened in the Arenal Volcano area of Costa Rica and is called the Titoku Hot Springs. The Hot spirngs means water from the Gods in the Maleku language which is a Costa Rican Tribal Language. The Arenal Volcano is famous for its hotsprings with the most famous being the Tabacon Hotsprings, however these hotsprings are famous for over crowding. The recent opening of the Titoku Hotsprings comes as a great relief as it will mean another 5 star hotspring facility in the area that is not so crowded. Read the rest of this entry »
This is an update to clarify the weather situation in Arenal. Typically Arenal has good weather all year, but there are times where you can see heavy down pours, however Costa Rica really needs these down pours in Arenal as it put water in the lake which powers the country. It is well known throughout Costa Rica that typically you can find North Americans in Costa Rica through the months of January to December, however this year it appears that Arenal will have more Europeans in its mists this July/August as Costa Rica refocuses its advertising on Europeans due to the recent slow down in the US economy. When people typically think of Arenal they think of the majestic Arenal Volcano that attracts millions of people a year to its hotsprings and firework lava shows. The Lake that sits at the feet of the volcano is almost forgotten and only used daily for the transfer by boat from Arenal to Monteverde. If you boat around the the lake on a weekend you may see some fisherman, however you would be lucky to see more than 3 other boats. One of the worlds most active volcanoes, the Arenal Volcano this week put on a fabulous fireworks display as it erupted last week 2 times. Typically at night you can see the volcano glowing as lava flows down the volcanoes North Western face, however over the last week visitors have been treated to a glowing lava eruption like it was Guy Fawkes Night in England.

Typically when people think about the Arenal area the first thing they think about is the Arenal Volcano and then probably the hot springs as these are the famous land marks and attractions. However the Lake maybe in peoples top 5 however Bass fishing in Arenal would be at the bottom of the list if it even made the list. The Volcan Arenal (Arenal Volcano) is estimated to be around 4,000 years old and sits between the town of La Fortuna and Nuevo Arenal (New Arenal) with the man made Lake Arenal at its feet. One of the major attractions of the Arenal Volcano is the thermally heated hotsprings that are thermally heated by the volcano.
